Ben Rees

Ben is a Partner with a practice focused on regulatory matters, sanctions and dispute resolution, with particular expertise across the financial services and sports sectors, advising clients on complex regulatory, contentious and strategic matters.

Ben has extensive experience handling claims involving the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), and retail investment mis-selling. Ben also advises on non-contentious matters, including regulatory structures, business models, change in control applications, regulated activities, and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) permissions.

Ben acts for a variety of professional sportspeople and representative organisations on a wide range of regulatory, disciplinary, governance and dispute-related matters. His work includes advising individuals facing disciplinary proceedings, regulatory investigations and safeguarding concerns, as well as providing strategic advice on governance, player welfare and engagement with governing bodies and other key stakeholders.

Ben also has significant experience advising on UK financial sanctions and related regulatory matters, including issues involving the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He advises UK and international clients on a range of complex sanctions matters, including the application and interpretation of UK sanctions regimes, regulatory compliance, asset freezes and restrictions, licensing and reporting requirements, and engagement with the relevant UK authorities. His work includes helping clients navigate the interaction between sanctions obligations and the wider UK financial services regulatory framework.
